Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (movie)

"Breaking Vegan Edge" is the term given to any devoted vegan who breaks the Vegan Code by consuming dairy-based products.

History[]

Comics[]

In Volume 3, Todd Ingram, believing himself to be above the code due to his rockstar status, breaks vegan edge by knowingly ingesting gelato. Towards the end of the book, Todd fights a winning bass battle with Scott Pilgrim, but before he can win, the Vegan Police show up to inform him of his violation. Todd tries to deny it, telling them they can't prove anything since he is a rockstar, but the Police, calmly remind him of the Vegan Code's rules: anyone who breaks code, receives swift and immediate punishment by having their powers taken away. As per the Code, the Police follow through with the rules and prepare to erase his powers through a double-blast of their Deveganizing rays. Todd tries to dodge the rays, but they turn out to be widespread, thus his powers are taken away.

Movie[]

In the movie, the rules appear to be more lenient, as Todd is given a three-strike rule, meaning he only gets punished if he breaks code three times. At the end of the bass battle with Scott, Todd tries to kill him, so Scott suggests a last request to drink to his memory, and holds up two cups. One cup, held out towards Todd is filled a half-and-half (which is not vegan) and cup of soy is in his other hand. Todd believes he knows what Scott is trying to do, and, knowing that taking the half-and-half will break Vegan Code, uses his powers to take soy and drink it. As soon as he drinks it, Scott reveals that the cup he took was actually filled with the half-and-half, and the cup that he (Scott) has is the soy cup. Todd immediately drops the cup as the Vegan Police arrive on scene. As soon as they inform him of the violation and the penalty, Todd reminds them of the three-strike rule, believing this to be only his first offence. hearing this, they pull out a notebook, documenting the previous two strikes, in which he consumed gelato and chicken parmesan. Immediately, they use their Deveganizing rays to strip him off his powers.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off[]

Onset during the production of Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life, Todd began a relationship with Wallace Wells (in the process, cheating on Envy Adams). As soon as Envy found out, she forced Todd to admit his feelings to Wallace. Wallace, however, reveals that he does not view it the same way, telling him that it's only an onset affair and they are done when the movie wraps production. Hearing this, Todd is heartbroken and disappears through a portal. Sometime later, Ramona Flowers, seeking to investigate Todd on Scott's disappearance, goes to his movie trailer with Envy. Inside, they find that the depressed Todd has broken vegan edge. Strangely, Todd isn't seen getting punished, so it's possible that either the Vegan Police don't exist in this continuity, or they do, and they use the three-strike rule with Todd not having gotten all three strikes. He is shown to lose his powers, though, considering this may only be his first or second offense, he regains them at the end of the series by eating a piece of broccoli.
