"Why Don't You Build A Time Machine, Go Back In Time" is a quote stated by Wallace Wells in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off where in which Wallace sarcastically tells people to "build a time machine and go back in time" to stop that person from doing something. He says the phrase in the episode "Whatever" and is referenced to have said it to Future Scott Pilgrim in "2 Scott 2 Pilgrim".

After arriving on set to see Straight Wallace portraying him in the Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life film adaption, Wallace Wells heckles Straight Wallace after he asks how his performance was by saying that he should go "build a time machine, go back in time" to stop Straight Wallace from auditioning for the role in the first place.

When Future Wallace Wells questions Future Scott Pilgrim on why there is a younger version of himself in the kitchen, Future Scott tells him that it was his idea. Taken back, Future Wallace questions him. Future Scott reveals that he told him to "build a time machine, go back in time" so he wouldn't date Ramona Flowers in the first place after having a rough patch. Future Wallace reveals that he was only joking, Future Scott responds by saying "now you tell me" before Future Wallace asks how he got a time machine in the first place.
