A League of Their Own is the second episode of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. It was released on 17 November 2023 on Netflix along with the rest of the series.
Synopsis[]
A familiar crowd of eclectic faces father under unusual circumstances. Elsewhere, the League of Evil Exes meets up at a secret lair.
Plot[]
Whilst boasting about his victory, Matthew Patel grabs Ramona's hand. Saddened by Scott's death, she rejects him. He tells her that, per the rules of the League of Evil Exes, they are free to get back together, but she leaves the Rockit. Everybody leaves, much to Patel's annoyance. Knives, having fainted earlier, wakes up and learns from the cleaning man that Scott Pilgrim was "punched to death."
The next morning, Ramona dyes her hair, before attending Scott's funeral, where she meets Wallace. Young Neil expresses disbelief that Scott is dead. Kim tells him that it had to happen sooner or later, because he always fought high-powered enemies. When Neil replies that Scott always won the fights, Kim remarks despondently that "nobody wins forever". Neil meets Ramona. Stephen expresses sadness, saying that now he will never if Sex Bob-omb truly sucked. A crying Knives Chau, wearing Scott's parka, arrives. Upon noticing Ramona, she accuses her of killing Scott Pilgrim. This prompts murmurs from the attendees, with Sandra & Monique commenting on the drama.
Suddenly, Envy Adams pulls up at the church. The church's window are covered with black drapes. Many people, fans, including Knives, immediately recognize her, with ninja-like paparazzi following closely. Knives' obsession with Envy's band, The Clash at Demonhead, causes Stephen to point out that Sex Bob-omb is her favorite band. Knives corrects him, saying they're her favorite real band; Sex Bob-omb is her favorite band that isn't real, making Stephen sad. Envy expresses her sadness over Scott's passing, before singing a song in his memory. Whilst she is performing, each Evil Ex, including Gideon, receive a mysterious invitation letter. As everyone chases after Envy, the saddened Ramona is left alone in the church.
At G-Man Media, NYC, America, Lucas Lee and Todd Ingram arrive. Inside the building is the League's headquarters. Roxie Richter, Kyle & Ken Katayanagi Gideon Graves and Robot-01 are already waiting at the conference table. Todd asks why they were brought here. Gideon reveals that he was not the one who organized the meeting, and the person who did remains a mystery. However, not long after, the mastermind behind the meeting is revealed: Matthew Patel. Matthew brought them here, after realizing the League lacks proper leadership, and is now furious that he got nothing after defeating Scott Pilgrim. He explains that Ramona still turned him down after Scott's defeat, infuriating everyone except Gideon, who explains that Matthew is the League's lowest-ranked member, and as such should get nothing. Graves also explains that he was fighting him so he could get Ramona. Matthew and the other Exes are angered by the fact that they ill be getting nothing. Matthew proposes that he and Gideon fight to the death: should Gideon win, Matthew will be killed. Should Matthew win, Gideon is to hand control of the League and G-Man Media over to him. Gideon initially says no, but he is convinced to after Roxie calls him "scared".
Gideon and Matthew fight. Both take brutal hits, but after taking a punch to the face, Matthew summons his Demon Hipster Chicks. Their fight takes them room the tower's rooms; Gideon grabs two swords from one room and is able to destroy the hipster chicks. The two end up on the building's roof, where Patel uses his mystical powers to disarm Gideon and leaving hanging on the edge of the building. A business man comes by with a clipboard; Gideon the clipboard's paper, thus handing his empire, and the League over the Matthew Patel. Gideon asks Patel to kill him, but he refuses, as he wants him to suffer.
Back at her house, Ramona reflects on her short time with Scott. Whilst sleeping, she goes through Scott's Dream Desert. She hears Scott's voice calling out her name. She wakes up the next morning with the realization that Scott is still alive.
