The Battle at Club Rockit was a battle between Scott Pilgrim and Matthew Patel at Club Rockit following Sex Bob-omb's performance of "Garbage Truck".
History[]
Scott Pilgrim graphic novels[]
In Volume 1, after an opening performance by rival band Crash and the Boys, which features one song that is 0.4 seconds long and another that leaves the audience comatose, Sex Bob-omb prepare to begin their set when Matthew Patel breaks through and targets Scott Pilgrim. Immediately blocking his first move, Scott does a reversal move on Matthew before stopping to question why they are fighting. Matthew asks Scott if he got his email and letter explaining the situation to which Scott revealed he "skimmed" it.
Matthew reveals to Scott that he is in fact Ramona's first evil ex-boyfriend, and has mystical powers that allow him to summon "demon hipster chicks". After Ramona details her and Matthew's past, Scott and Matthew battle as the latter performs "Slick (Patel's Song)". Eventually, with the help from his fellow bandmates and friends, Scott prevails, with his final attack obliterating Matthew and leaving behind a handful of coins. Scott proceeds to swiftly leave the Rockit afterwards.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World[]
At the Rockit, Ramona arrives just as Scott requested. Stacey introduces her to Wallace, her boyfriend Jimmy, and Knives.
However, Scott's attention is fixated on Ramona and Knives, causing him to dash to the backstage area. Crash and the Boys then take the stage, opening with their song "I Am So Sad, I'm So Very, Very Sad," which starts and ends with "So sad!" Their final song, "We Hate You Please Die," is a 'tribute' to Wallace, who continues to taunt them from the balcony.
Meanwhile, Stills is anxious about their chances of signing with "G-Man" and playing opening night at Chaos Theatre.
From the balcony, Scott notices Ramona sitting next to Knives, turning his worst fears into reality. When Sex Bob-omb takes the stage to perform "Garbage Truck," their set is abruptly interrupted by a fierce fight with Matthew Patel.
During the fight, Ramona explains her past relationship with Matthew, which enrages him, leading to a musical battle where he summons fireballs and demon hipster chicks to attack Scott.
In a heated exchange, Scott hurls a cymbal at Matthew and punches him, knocking him out. Scott earns $2.40 and 1000 points for defeating Matthew
Trivia[]
- Out of the graphic novels, film, and later in the anime television series, the Battle at Club Rockit is the only one to be prominently featured in all three.
