Quote1 You really think I'd just hand the League over?
No. I think I'll
fight you for it. You versus me. Winner takes all.
I'm Gideon Graves. I own two record labels, a movie studio, fourteen animal shelters and this League. You're a D-plus theater student with delusional Broadway dreams. This is a joke. You're not worth my time.

Matthew Patel challenges Gideon Graves.

"A League of Their Own"

The Battle at G-Man Media Tower was a battle fought between Matthew Patel and Gideon Graves in an alternate universe.

History[]

Prelude[]

After hearing that Ramona Flowers has a new boyfriend, Scott Pilgrim, Matthew Patel was dispatched to take care of Pilgrim. Whilst Scott's band, Sex Bob-omb, was playing at the Rockit, Matthew broke through the ceiling and immediately challenged Scott. Scott put up a good fight, but ultimately, Matthew seemingly emerged victorious after punching Scott to death. Matthew was surprised that he won, before he began gloating. He tried to get back with Ramona, but Ramona, heartbroken over Scott's death, quickly rejected him.

Meeting[]

Whilst Scott's funeral was being held, each Ex was invited to a meeting at G-Man Media Tower. Each Ex did not know why they were gathered here, until Patel arrived from the shadows to greet them, revealing himself as the host for the meeting. The Twins introduced him to Robot-01, but Matthew tells them the meeting was curated, and breaks the robot's head from it's body. Matthew gathered the League for this meeting, because he has recognized it's fatal flaw in leadership.

Gideon takes this to mean that Matthew is questioning is leadership style, so Matthew tells them all that he was the one who defeated Scott Pilgrim but was not rewarded for his work. Most of the League were unaware of Scott's existence, save for Roxie Richter, who read about his funeral in the newspaper (it made the news because Envy Adams attended).

Matthew took this realization to mean that they won't get Ramona regardless of which of them had defeated Scott in his place, telling them that Ramona still rejected him after he defeated Scott, shocking everyone, save for Gideon. Gideon asks Matthew what made him him think he would get Ramona's heart, what with holding the status for the League's lowest-ranked Evil Ex. He then reveals his true plan: he was simply using them all so that he could have Ramona's heart all to himself. Naturally, the Exes are furious at fact that they won't get her. Matthew ultimately decides the League needs a new leader to move it in the right direction.

Gideons tells Matthew he wouldn't hand it over so easily, so Matthew challenges him to fight for control of the League in a winner-takes-all battle. Gideon explains who he is, bringing up his high status as owner of one of the world's largest media conglomerates before comparing his status to Patel's lowly status as an aspiring Broadway theatre actor, and as such, Patel is not worth fighting. Roxie pokes fun, calling Gideon "scared". Gideon, infuriated, brings up his old high-school alias, "Fearless", and, not wanting to lose this reputation, decides to fight Patel.

Battle[]

Gideon boasts that Matthew has made the biggest mistake of his life, but nonetheless, he lays down some terms. Gideon states that should he lose, Matthew is to be given control of everything owned by the corporation, effective immediately the second he wins the battle. Gideon has put this term down, knowing that Patel will lose, regardless of what happens. The second term is that Matthew be killed as soon as Gideon defeats him. Matthew accepts these terms, and the battle begins.

The two assume defensive postures, before Matthew begins throwing punches. As the other League members watch, Gideon and Matthew exchange and block punches and kicks. Finally, Gideon strikes Matthew hard enough to send him to the floor. Gideon tells him he is messing with G-Man Media's CEO, but Matthew calls on four Demon Hipster Chicks to assist him in the fight. They each hurl fireballs at Gideon, who dodges them, until one hits him hard enough to send him to the basketball court below.

Matthew arrives, with his Hipster Chicks in tow. Gideon sends Matthew to the floor with another punch. The Hipster Chicks imbue him with power, reviving him. Matthew orders them to surround Gideon. Matthew produces an energy. He bounces it on the floor, before passing it to one of the Hipster Chicks. The Hipster Chicks pass it back and forth, until it creates a giant laser, which they use to hit Gideon. Matthew hits Gideon with another energy ball. Gideon goes to the level below, a weapons armoury, and Matthew and his Hipster Chicks follow him. Just as one prepares to attack, Gideon grabs a sword and destroy the Hipster Chick, before destroying another one as well. Gideon takes another sword and attacks Matthew. Matthew manages to block the swords easily, owing to his mystic powers. Matthew surprise attacks him, kicking him into a wire harness. The Hipster Chicks attempt to attack Gideon, but he deflects their energy, before cutting off the wires and ripping off the harness. Matthew and his Hipster Chicks balst Gideon through several rooms, until they reach the end of the line. Gideon attempts to attack Matthew, but the Hipster Chicks block the blow, allowing him to destroy them in the process.

Matthew escapes up the stairwell to the roof of the building, with Gideon in pursuit. Once they reach the top of the building, Gideon attempts to kill Matthew, but Matthew again blocks the attack. Gideon prepares to strike again, but Matthew uses astral arms to block the blow, using an astral trident to knock one sword out of Gideon's hand. The two battle it out again; after telling Gideon "You're mine!", Matthew viciously attacks him, knocking the last sword out of Gideon's hands and knocking Gideon far enough to leave him hanging off the edge of the building. Lucas Lee declares this to be a "reversal of fortune". A lawyer comes by with clipboard, asking Gideon to sign the paper on it, telling him that the result of the fight is legally binding; reluctantly, he carries out his terms and signs, thus handing control of everything, including his empire and the League of Evil Exes, over to Matthew Patel. Gideon asks that Patel kill him, but he refuses as he wants to see him suffer. Matthew proudly declares the League to be his, citing that he is finally the main character; they all side with him and accept him as their leader. Gideon calls this betrayal by all. He attempts to get them back, but he fails, miserably.

Aftermath[]

As per the terms of the fight, Gideon's defeat cost him everything. Now broke, Gideon was forced to shack up with Julie Powers, who surprisingly felt pity for him. Through staying with her, Gideon went soft, befriending, Lucas Lee and spending his days watching anime.

Young Neil attempted to adapt Scott's life, through a script in which he wins the fight with Patel and defeated the rest of the League. Matthew, after learning that he would be defeated, shut the movie down, calling it a "character assassination" of him. Knives Chau and Stephen Stills pitched to Matthew again, but as a musical, starring Patel as Scott Pilgrim. Matthew immediately signed on.

Gideon, however, was secretly plotting to bring down Patel, and, on the opening night of Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Musical, Gideon and Julie attempted to bomb the theatre. Two Demon Hipster Chicks defused the bombs and brought Gideon and Julie before Patel. Patel, who was tired of the stress caused by the duties of being a CEO, willingly gave back the empire, on the condition that he can keep the musical, to which Gideon agreed.
