When Scott defeats the many enemies he faces (mainly members of the League of Ramona's Evil Ex-Boyfriends), they often leave behind a pile of coins and sometimes an item for Scott. This is a reference to many different video games.

A cheat in the Game (Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up) allows coin sprites to turn into animal sprites when defeating an enemy. This is an obvious reference to the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' games.
Trivia
- The coins in the Movie were in fact real Canadian Dollars. Actor Mark Webber (who portrays Stephen Stills) stated in his commentary that he had pocketed $24 from the Chaos Theatre scene after Gideon's defeat.
