When Scott defeats any of the members of League of Ramona's Evil Ex-Boyfriends, they will often leave behind a pile of coins and sometimes an item for Scott. This is a reference to many different video games.
Rewards in the Books
Matthew Patel:$2.10 (not enough for a Toronto Transit Commission cash fare ($2.25 when the book was written)) it was $2.40 in the movie.
Lucas Lee:$~14 all in coins, and a Mithril Skateboard which Scott can't use.
Todd Ingram:Unknown amount and an Extra Life.
Winifred Hailey Clones: Coupons for one free beverage at all participating mini marts that expire June 30th (the same day that the comic is set).
Roxie Richter: $0, bursts into a variety of woodland creatures like in the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' series. Prior to the fight though, Scott levels up by telling Ramona he loves her and gains a longsword he can use, Power Of Love.
Kyle & Ken Katayanagi:Kyle: $79.95, Ken: $74.95, a Twin Bonus: $2.00 for defeating them both, and Scott unlocks the achievement: Defeated The Twins Simultaniously.
Gideon Graves: $7,777,777 (which falls onto the audience painfully), as well as, of course, Ramona Flowers.
In The Game
A cheat in the Game (Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up) allows coin sprites to turn into animal sprites when defeating an enemy.
Trivia
- The coins in the Movie were in fact real Canadian Dollars. Actor Mark Webber pocketed $24 from the Chaos Theatre scene after Gideon's defeat.
