Scott Pilgrim vs. the Universe

The Duel at Queen and Bathurst was the final battle fought between Scott Pilgrim and the Katayanagi Twins.

History[]

Set up[]

In order to lure Scott to them, Kyle and Ken kidnapped Kim just before she could board the subway back home. They held her prisoner at the construction site on Queen and Bathurst, in a large birdcage, the future site of the Chaos Theatre. At 4:36 AM, Kim sent Scott a text message requesting his help.

Fight[]

Scott arrived to the fight, hungover. Kyle berated him for doing this, calling it disrespectful and tried to strike him. Scott blocked the attack, but Ken was able to hit him from behind. Ken asked how Ramona was this morning. Scott said the she was doing fine, but that them fighting him together was unfair, as the Exes are supposed to fight him one by one. Ken, however, justifies this saying that Ramona cheated on them with each other; since the day they found out about this, they vowed always to work together and activate their Twin-Link ability. They use the Double Hurricane Kick to attack Scott. Scott accepts that he did cheat on his girlfriends, with Ken calling Ramona a hypocrite. Hearing this, Scott refuses to be brought down by their insults and vows to defeat them and Gideon so that everything between him and Ramona will be peaches.

As Scott continues fighting them, Kim realizes that he and Ramona must have had a fight, which Scott denies (although it is true). Hearing this, Ken threw a punch at Scott, which he dodged, asking if Ramona's head had glowed during their fight, which Scott again denies (although it did). Kim asks what the Glow means, but Scott asks that they change the subject to something else Ramona-related. Kyle blocked one of Scott's punches, telling him that Ramona didn't come to Toronto because of her job: she came to escape from Gideon and her emotional issues. The Twins use a Simul-Punch to attack Scott.

As Scott lays defeated, the Twins tell him how Ramona is a runner, and that her last job was working for Gideon, Ken telling Scott about how her services to Gideon were missed. Kim keeps yelling for Scott to save her. Scott attempts to continue fighting, but Ken kicks him down. The Twins mock his quest for love, asking him whether or not Ramona would do the same thing for him. Suddenly, Kim lies and tells Scott that Ramona has just texted her. Even though her phone is dead, it doesn't stop her from falsely telling him that Ramona is waiting for him at home, that she believes in him and wanted to check that he was okay against the Katayanagis. Keeping the act up, Kim continues lying, telling him that she's texting back with "C'mon. He's Scott Pilgrim". The Twins ask if this means that Ramona is really capable of changing who she is, before Scott, fueled with energy to keep fighting for Ramona's love, kicks them back. Kyle sees that Gideon may be underestimating Scott; Scott tells them to warn Gideon as he's next. Scott leaps forward and knees them in their skulls, defeating them and earning $79.95 for Ken and $74.95 for Kyle, as well as a $2.00 Twin bonus and unlocking an achievement for defeating them simultaneously.

Aftermath[]

Scott liberated Kim from the cage and apologized for roping her into this. She accepts his apology. He asks if she feels okay, and she tells him that she'll go shower back at her home. She encourages him to go work it out with Ramona. He runs home to see her. He finds her on their bed, with a new haircut, her letter to Gideon, and her head glowing dangerously bright. Scott informs her that the Twins have been defeated and Kim has been rescued. Scott recalls what the Twins said about her to him, but he dismisses it, telling her that he loves her deeply and hopes that she shares the same feeling for him, too. Ramona begins to disappear. She starts to cry, telling him that she's no better at her relationships, telling him that she's a bad person because of how she treated her Exes. Scott tells her that everyone has done bad things at some point in their lives, but those people are capable of changing. Ramona looks at him as she wipes a tear, thanking for giving her a good time, before she disappears entirely.

Trivia[]

  • This was the only Evil ex fight in the movie that was changed entirely: Roxie and Ramona's fight doesn't count as only the location was changed.
