Lainey has been announced to appear in Scott Pilgrim EX where she will appear as a shopkeeper and will be Young Neil’s girlfriend.

Scrapped character and reintroduction[]

Lainey was intended to be Young Neil's girlfriend in Volume 5, but she was cut from the final copy. According to Bryan Lee O'Malley, she was "weird and had a few funny lines." She also made Paper-Mache Dolphins.

At San Diego Comic Con 2025, during a preview of Scott Pilgrim EX, it was revealed that Lainey would be reintroduced as a character in the game where she would be a shopkeeper and play a role within Young Neil’s storyline.

This is the first instance where a scrapped character from the original graphic novels has become a legitimate character in the wider series.
