"Queen Victoria"

Queen Victoria was a short one-page comic strip by John Allison, that was contributed to the back of the original black-and-white edition of Scott Pilgrim & the Infinite Sadness.

Plot[]

Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers are at a cafe, paying for some beverages. Ramona takes a look at the Canadian dollar bill and asks Scott why Canada has the Queen on their money. Scott tells her to keep quiet, telling that it's not easy to be Britain's "plaything". When she asks what he means by this, he tells that they do whatever she wants. E.g., if she told them to jump, they would ask how high they should and if they should smile wider whilst doing this. Ramona dismisses this as being "so much crap". Scott confirmed it wasn't, bringing up when Prince Charles married Camilla and everyone under 18 had to dress as a horse and go on parade, whilst all the TV channels did a live feed of the Queen drunk and laughing. Ramona, still not believing this, asked if this was a dream he had when he had fallen ill one time.

Trivia[]

  • This short references a line from Volume 2. When Ramona mentioned how her middle name was "Victoria", Scott calls into reference Queen Victoria. Ramona remembers that Canada "still worships the Queen", but Scott tells her that they don't worship Victoria, owing to her death one hundred years ago.
