Romantic relationships[]
Scott Pilgrim[]
|
Scott first saw Ramona in a dream when she was using the subspace in his head to travel all over Toronto. Since this first encounter, he became obsessed about her, telling his friends that he had a strange dream about a girl, which his friends nonchalantly disregarded.
After an awkward meeting at one of Julie's parties, Scott purchased something on Amazon so that they would meet again. At first, Ramona was uninterested in Scott, but eventually, Scott convinced her to go out with him. Their relationship has its ups and downs like any; she remained enigmatic and Scott remained a dork, but it was their very interest in each other that kept the two together. Overall, like any other relationship, Scott and Ramona's one is not perfect in every way, but when it's at it's best, it's shown that they are a loving, supporting and caring couple who get along great and enjoy spending time together and making each other laugh and smile. Examples of all three included the two admitting their love for each other at the end of the fourth book, Scott encouraging Ramona to attend Roxie's art gallery (even though Roxie is trying to kill him), and although Ramona does not like Sex Bob-omb that much, she still attends a show in Volume 5, because, as Kim told Scott, "dumbass, she likes you. She's supporting your lousy endeavours, don't knock it". One of the best examples of the latter is when Scott helps Ramona put pressure on her wound after Gideon stabbed her with the Power of Love sword, and another good example is when Ramona asked Scott if he was okay, after Julie hit him in the head with a volleyball.
She stated that she liked him because of his pleasantness and simple-mindedness in Volume 4. Also, during Julie's early birthday party, taking place before Volume 4, she told Scott that he is the nicest boy she had ever dated. This moment of happiness began to falter in Book 5 when she learned from Knives that Scott had cheated on them both. She dismissed this bit of news at first, but after Scott accidentally blurted out that he cheated on Knives with her, she became increasingly upset, not only calling him a bad person, but "another Evil Ex waiting to happen," although she cheated on many of her boyfriends herself (e.g. the Katayanagi twins with each other).
Feeling guilty for her own past actions, Ramona confessed that she was no better. After hearing some encouraging words from Scott, she thanked him before vanishing, making Scott think that things between them were over until Book 6. Meeting up with Scott in Subspace after his initial defeat against Gideon, she apologized and helped him fight Gideon. After being wounded by Gideon, she became trapped in her own mind and her desires controlled by him. After breaking free thanks to Scott, she took control of her mind once more to cast Gideon out, leading to one last fight in reality. In the aftermath of their victory, she explained to Scott that she felt like she has to keep running or else she feels "stuck." She was scared of the prospects of not changing but wanted to be with Scott, who continued to support her and gave her advice on how to tackle this problem.
Scott also gave Ramona her nickname, "Rammy", which she disliked at first, but as the story progressed, she started to accept it. Even most of the other characters, like Kim, often called her "Rammy," whilst others still called her Ramona.
Ramona's Seven Evil Exes[]
Since high school, Ramona had dated six boys and one girl. These seven were either dumped or had been separated with and each held a form of grudge on Ramona. They banded together to become The League of Ramona's Evil Exes, each one with their own reasons for joining. Ramona claimed to be innocent throughout her explanations for why she dumped these exes, but as the story went on, each story seemed to end with Ramona using them, disappearing, or cheating on them. Despite all this, many members of the league seemed to still hold Ramona in some level of high regard.
Matthew Patel[]
Matthew Patel was Ramona's first evil ex from the seventh grade. The two dated for only a week and a half. During the time, Ramona pretty much used Matthew and his mystical powers to ward off flocks of jocks interested in her. According to her own story, she dated Matthew because he was the only non-white and non-jock kid at her school. The two only kissed once, and it ended shortly after due to Matthew's pre-adolescent capriciousness.
Lucas Lee[]
Lucas Lee was described as a "snot-nosed brat in high school." The two dated in the ninth grade after he asked her out ninety-six times. Their interactions only consisted of sitting out on the curb and smoking a few times over the period of a month. Ramona said that she just dumped him, but Lucas told Scott that she dumped him for the man who would become the third evil ex.
Todd Ingram[]
Ramona dated Todd Ingram for the rest of high school. She confessed that she left Lucas for Todd, but it was not until volume 3 when she said that they were the "bad kids" together. He vanished for two weeks while they dated. At the time they were apart, he was sent to Vegan Academy, where he would gain his telekinetic powers. He fully enrolled in the academy while Ramona went to the University of Carolina in the Sky. Not wanting to be tied down to the relationship, Ramona dumped him. One day in college, Todd returned and took Ramona out of class to prove his love for her by blasting one of the two craters in the moon (a feat he would repeat not too much later for Envy Adams).
Roxie Richter[]
Roxie Richter was Ramona's university roommate and only ex-girlfriend. She alleged that their relationship just a phase she went through. After post-secondary, the two broke up and had not seen or heard much from one another. Despite being one of Ramona's evil exes, Roxie and Ramona still had something of a friendship. As seen in the fourth book, Ramona let Roxie stay at her place for a few days, and admitted to Scott they made out (but only a little), although Bryan Lee O'Malley said after the volume was released, that he meant it as a joke, not something to be taken seriously. On their bad times though, Ramona did not seem to mind throwing out that Roxie was only a half-ninja, which really got under her skin. Despite everything, Roxie and Ramona seemed to be on the best terms of all her exes. In the book series, she used a sword (as seen in volume 4), and in the film she uses a chain belt.
Kyle & Ken Katayanagi[]
Kyle and Ken Katayanagi were Ramona's fifth and sixth evil exes, fourth and fifth ex-boyfriends, respectively. She dated them simultaneously without the other knowing. When they both discovered the truth, they called the whole thing off and vowed to work together forever to get back at her. In the book series, they appeared in volume 5 and seemed to only show up at parties that Julie Powers threw at random. They were Japanese and invented robots for Scott to fight, saying that they would not fight him later on, due to their desire to not be "barbarian-like". In the film, they are defeated in an "Amp vs. Amp" against Sex-Bob-Omb.
Gideon Graves[]
Gideon Graves was Ramona's seventh evil ex, sixth ex-boyfriend and the leader of the League of Ramona's Evil Exes. Gideon experimented with Ramona with Subspace and The Glow. She intended to fully break up with him, but was overwhelmed with emotions while writing the breakup. She took the letter with her when the Glow transported her into subspace. In Book 4, Scott stumbled into Ramona's mind via Subspace, seeing her with a shadowy figure who would later be revealed to be Gideon. This seemingly showed that Ramona still has some remnant of feelings towards him. It was soon revealed in Book 6 that Gideon used The Glow to control her within her mind. After being rescued by Scott, she was finally able to let go of Gideon's hold on her life before the final battle.

Kim Pine[]
|
Kim and Ramona have a complex relationship, marked by a mix of tension, friendship, and shared history. As Scott becomes more involved with Ramona, Kim is initially sceptical and cautious. She expresses concern for Scott's well-being and questions Ramona's mysterious past. However, over time, Kim and Ramona develop a sort of uneasy friendship. They share moments of camaraderie and even team up during certain events in the series. As the story progresses, both Kim and Ramona undergo character development. Kim grapples with her feelings for Scott and navigates her own path to self-discovery. Ramona's complexities are also revealed, shedding light on her past relationships and personal struggles. The two, despite their initial differences, come to a mutual understanding and respect for each other.
Kim and Ramona find themselves fighting side by side alongside Scott and the rest of their friends. This shared experience helps solidify their bond and contributes to a sense of unity within the group. While Kim and Ramona's relationship is initially colored by the romantic history between Kim and Scott, the series portrays a nuanced evolution of their interactions. Their dynamic adds depth to the narrative, showcasing themes of forgiveness, growth, and the complexity of interpersonal relationships within the larger context of the story.
Stephen Stills[]
Stephen and Ramona's primary connection is through Scott and Sex Bob-omb. Throughout the series, Stephen, like Scott's other friends, provides support and advice to Scott as he navigates the challenges posed by Ramona's evil exes.
While Stephen has his own issues and challenges to deal with, he often contributes to the humorous and sometimes chaotic dynamics within the group. Stephen mostly interacts with Ramona in group settings. While their friendship may not be as prominent as those between Scott and Ramona, Stephen is generally supportive of Scott's pursuit of Ramona as the series progresses.
Stacey Pilgrim[]
Over the course of the series, Stacey and Ramona develop a healthy friendship. Stacey is supportive of Scott's pursuit of Ramona, but like Kim, she also has moments of scepticism and questioning, particularly regarding Ramona's mysterious past and the challenges Scott faces in defeating the exes. Stacey becomes involved in the larger battles against Ramona's exes. In these moments, the characters form a united front, and Stacey and Ramona share some camaraderie during these intense situations.
While Stacey may initially be cautious about Ramona, the two come to understand each other better as the series progresses. Stacey's concern for Scott's well-being is rooted in her care for her brother, and as Ramona becomes more integrated into Scott's life, Stacey learns to navigate the complexities of sibling relationships and the challenges of being Scott's sister.
