"My sleep paralysis demon...?"

Young Neil is in is bedroom, reading a book called "Screenplay". It appears Neil is trying to write his own screenplay. He is talking to someone on the phone, about the screenplay's "funeral scene" (it also appears this screenplay is based on recent events), and what his emotions and feelings were like at the funeral. We see him frantically typing on his computer, only for this to be dream, and he has written nothing thus far. At night, he sees someone typing it out for him. When he wakes up, he sees a printed copy of it on his desk.

"Tell me everything."

Ramona dyes her hair, before heading to the Second Cup. She tells Julie that she thinks somebody has kidnapped Scott and faked his death. She tells her the details: after hearing Scott in the dream, she went back to the Rockit to review security footage. Just before his death, Scott was pulled into a portal, with the culprit leaving behind $2.10. Julie refuses to believe that Ramona will go looking for him, since they only went on one date; Ramona tells her otherwise, telling they had a great date. Julie asks what her next movie will be, so Ramona gets Julie to assemble a list of people who might responsible for Scott's disappearance. The list includes Stephen Stills, Young Neil, and Envy Adams. Julie suggests Ramona talks with Scott's first ex, Sex Bob-omb's drummer, Kim Pine.

"He really added something to our sound. Something... undefinable..."

Back at Stephen Stills' house, Kim and Stephen mourn Scott, saying that Sex Bob-omb feels different without his bass. Stephen worries that if they found new bass player, they will sound even worse. Kim disagrees, and points out that they also have Scott's understudy, Knives Chau. Stephen freaks out and leaves. Kim and Knives decide to play some music together. Stephen comes back, amazed by Knives' talent, and becoming even more amazed after learning that she has been playing bass for only four hours. Stephen asks Knives if she is interested in playing for the band, and Kim leaves for work.

"The house always wins."

Ramona arrives not long after, with Hollie informing Kim. After filling Kim in with the details, she asks how the two met. In a flashback at school, Scott draws Kim a sheep in geography class. Kim smiles, one thing led to another and Scott became Kim's very first boyfriend. Kim was soon kidnapped by the students of the Benvie Tech High School. Scott defeated them and their leader, Simon Lee, and rescued her. Eventually, he had to move away, and their relationship ended. Kim senses that Ramona likes Scott, to which Ramona replies with "there were sparks". She tells that she is in trouble. Kim suggests that Ramona instead question the League of Evil Exes.

Roxie Richter grabbing her Katana

"Rox you like a hurricane!"

As if on cue, the fourth Evil Ex, Roxie Richter arrives. Ramona tells that they were college roommates "and more". Roxie tells her that she is here for them, as she has something the other Exes don't: emotional intelligence. None of the others know how to express their feelings. When Ramona says she is just as clueless, Roxie says that she is difficult to talk to. But, rather than decide to talk about their feelings, they decide to fight about them. The two of them fight, Roxie wielding sword and Ramona wield her Large Hammer. When they crash into a shelf, it sends them into an old movie.

"Come on!"

The fighting sends them into different movies. When Ramona is sent down a stairwell, Roxie prepares to attack, but Kim pauses the movie and rewinds them back to a movie set in Medieval Japan. Ramona whacks Roxie back into the store, she destroys the television's remote control. Ramona pulls her back into the hole created by her hammer, and the two end up on a train, in a movie set in the Wild West.

"No sparks..."

When Roxie says that Ramona will run away again, it prompts Ramona to remember their time together. They continue fighting, only to end up onboard a crashing plane. Ramona apologizes to Roxie, as she was too afraid to face her back then. Roxie accepts her apology. The plane crashes, and they fly out, ending up back in the video store. Roxie, Kim and Ramona bond together. Ramona refuses a kiss from Roxie, citing her unfinished business with Scott, but she'd still like to be Roxie's friend, with no benefits. Roxie declares that it was worth a shot to ask, then asks if Kim's interested. At first, Kim was about to say she was not, but then after a minute, she then changed her mind, and to make this short, she and Roxie ended up kissing each other on the lips. However, after the two finished their kiss, there were no sparks. Kim, on the other hand, thought their kiss was worth a shot as well, and then Roxie asks when Hollie is coming back, causing Ramona to tell her it's time to go.

"Don't tell me I'm gonna have to do this with all of them..."

Kim congratulates Ramona on getting a lot of stuff done today: getting a suspect off her list and making peace with Roxie. While cleaning the mess caused by their fight, she picks up a cardboard cutout of Lucas Lee. When Kim asks if Lucas is really evil enough to kidnap Scott and fake his death, she replies, say that there is "only one way to find out." The shot pans out to reveal that Robot-01 was watching them.

"Gordon... get your butt in here."

Julie rides the bus home. She comes across the downtrodden Graves, who reveals that his real name is actually Gordon Goose. After learning of how hard his life has been since he lost his fight with Matthew Patel, she invites him to stay over at her place.

Scott Pilgrim references[]

  • Second Cup's Neko Case poster is seen.
  • Kim's story of how she met Scott is exactly the same as it is in the comics.
    • This also marks the second time this story was adapted. The first was Scott Pilgrim vs. the Animation, a promotional short for the movie, that adapted the entire sequence, including Lisa Miller's scenes.
    • Considering that Kim remembers it this way too, this event might have been canon in this timeline.

Pop culture references[]

  • The title card is the same font used for Bubble Bobble.
  • Young Neil's room contains the following: an action figure of Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a poster for Fight Club, a photo with Winnie the Pooh, a Scream (1996) poster, and a Mario Box.
  • In the cold open, when Young Neil shouts "I'M A SCREENWRITER", the start-up sound of Microsoft Windows 3.1 can be heard before the opening titles commence.
  • Before their fight, Roxie says to Ramona, "So here I am. Rox you like a hurricane!", referencing the song by the rock band The Scorpions, Rock You Like A Hurricane, specifically the chorus "Here I am/Rock you like a hurricane".
  • When she leaves, Roxie hums the Hamster Dance, which originally came from the credits of the Disney version of Robin Hood.
