This article contains plot/ending details.

While Scott Pilgrim is dealing with his battle against League of Evil Exes, Scott has some ex-girlfriend troubles of his own, some of whom Ramona Flowers has encountered and fought.

Each of Scott's relationships—Kim, Envy, and Knives—played a significant role in his emotional development and understanding of love. His relationship with Kim was marked by youthful passion and the sting of separation, with Envy by the pain of betrayal and unfulfilled expectations, and with Knives by the simplicity and the inevitable complications of emotional growth. Each breakup forced Scott to confront different aspects of himself, ultimately helping him grow and prepare for the more mature relationship he sought with Ramona.

History[]

Kim Pine[]

035-1

Scott moves to Toronto, which triggers the end of their relationship.

Scott Pilgrim's relationship with Kim Pine began during their high school days in Northern Ontario. Kim was the drummer for the band they formed together, Sonic & Knuckles, and they became a couple during this time. Their relationship was typical of high school romances, full of youthful excitement and spontaneity.

The relationship between Scott and Kim ended when Scott moved away from Northern Ontario to Toronto. The breakup wasn't as much an explicit decision by either party but rather a consequence of circumstances. Scott’s decision to leave was partly driven by the need to escape his mundane life and to pursue something new, though it left Kim feeling abandoned and hurt. The unresolved feelings lingered between them for years, as Kim and Scott remained friends after the latter moved to Toronto in the years that followed.

Envy Adams[]

Envy breaks up with Scott at a New Year's Eve party.

Envy Adams, originally named Natalie, was Scott's girlfriend during his university years. Envy was a fellow student and bandmate, and they were deeply involved with each other both romantically and creatively. Their relationship was intense and passionate, and they even lived together for a time.

The relationship came to a tumultuous end when Envy broke up with Scott. She was driven by her ambition and desire for fame, which led her to reinvent herself as Envy Adams, the lead vocalist of the band The Clash at Demonhead. The breakup was devastating for Scott, who was blindsided by Envy's decision and left heartbroken. Envy's pursuit of success and her transformation into a more self-centered persona caused a significant rift between them, leaving Scott with lingering feelings of inadequacy and resentment.

Knives Chau[]

Scott breaks up with Knives.

Knives Chau was Scott's girlfriend after his breakup with Envy Adams. They met when Knives dropped her books on the bus, and Scott helped her pick them up. Knives was a high school student, six years younger than Scott, who found comfort and simplicity in their relationship following the emotional turmoil with Envy. Their time together was characterized by Knives' youthful enthusiasm and her admiration for Scott, who found the relationship easygoing and uncomplicated. Scott and Knives' relationship began to unravel when Scott met Ramona Flowers, a mysterious and intriguing woman who captivated his interest. Scott's growing feelings for Ramona, combined with Knives' intensifying infatuation with Scott, made him realize that he could not handle the emotional complexity of maintaining a relationship with Knives while pursuing Ramona. At the urging of his friend Wallace, Scott eventually broke up with Knives. The breakup was difficult for both of them, as Scott feared hurting Knives, who had been nothing but supportive and caring. Despite the pain, Scott's decision was driven by his desire to be honest with himself and with Knives about his true feelings.

Lisa Miller[]

Lisa tries to encourage Scott to make out.

While not necessarily an ex, there had been romantic tensions between Scott and Lisa Miller since high school. There was a mutual attraction but since neither of them was willing to make a move, a relationship never happened.

In Volume 4, Lisa reunites with Scott after more than four years, causing lots of one-sided sexual tension between the two on her end, which in turn causes a lot of tension in Scott's relationship with Ramona. She also tried to have sex and make out with Scott, which would've caused trouble between him and Ramona, but Scott refuses her offer and never tells Ramona.

Future Ramona confronts her ex-husband in the Dream Desert, ten years after last speaking.

In Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, when Future Scott Pilgrim kidnaps his younger self, he reveals to him that he and Ramona were together for 13 years before breaking up, eventually leading to Future Scott instigating a kidnap plot to keep Scott trapped in the future to avoid fighting the Evil Exes as a result of his future self's heartbreak in falling out with Ramona. When Scott confronts Future Ramona, she tells him that she still loves him, however, after she helps Scott return to the past, Future Scott teleports him and his friends to the Dream Desert to destroy them.

The battle comes to a halt after Future Ramona arrives to stop it. When Future Ramona confessed that she still loved him after they broke up, this prompted Future Scott to ask her if they could go out again, which Future Ramona immediately declines, citing that after ten years of not talking or interacting with one another, their romantic relationship was unsalvageable.

Once fusing with her younger self, Future Ramona transforms into Super Ramona, and sends Future Scott back to his room where he trained for ten years.
