Scott Pilgrim EX is an upcoming video game based on the Scott Pilgrim franchise. It is set to be released in 2026. It is developed by Tribute Games, who previously worked on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, and published by Universal, with the story of the game written by series author Bryan Lee O’Malley. The game is an unofficial sequel to Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

Synopsis

Toronto, 20XX. When Scott Pilgrim's bandmates are abducted by shadowy forces, a brand-new brawling adventure begins! Scott Pilgrim EX takes players on a wild ride through the sprawling streets of Toronto, battling 3 new enemy factions across space and time! Engage in creative combat, upgrade your characters, and discover hidden secrets.

Development

Scott Pilgrim EX was first announced on 6 June 2025 with a new trailer featuring Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers. The game was later previewed at the 2025 Summer Games Fest the following day, however O’Malley was unable to attend due to an illness.

During an AMA on Instagram held on 14 June about the game, O’Malley said that he personally didn't see the game as a sequel or spin-off, but an entirely new adventure which isn't an adaption of any other story. In reference to the other five playable characters, O’Malley said that he was told to keep quiet on who they were but praised their designs and that they would be super fun to play as.

On 19 June 2025, O’Malley took to Instagram to expand further on the development of the game.

I want the game to be a good entry point for newcomers, which is always my intention. It’s a comedic world and I don’t like getting bogged down in lore. However, this game does NOT cover the origin story of Scott and Ramona getting together; they’re already a couple this time, and they’re going on a new adventure. That’s why it “technically” takes place “after” the anime, the movie, the comics, the other game, etc. I can’t explain more without spoiling future reveals. I just don’t want audiences to assume it’s deeply entrenched in lore from previous installments. It’s really its own thing (ie, a video game). Everything you need to know will be explained in the game itself, although there will be plenty of easter eggs & nods to continuity for existing fans. I feel I have to state this because sources like google’s AI overview are claiming it’s a sequel to the anime specifically, which isn’t really true.

There are seven playable characters in the game, including Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers as well as “five of their former rivals” as revealed during Summer Game Fest. Antagonists featuring in the game include G Corp, The Robots, The Demons and The Vegans.

Trivia

• This is the second video game based on the Scott Pilgrim franchise after Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game in 2010.
• The game is a sequel to Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, as confirmed by BenDavid Grabinski, who worked both on Takes Off and EX.
  • This is further evidenced as the character designs are the same as Takes Off.
• The Ex within the title suggests that the game may have something to do with the League of Ramona's Evil Exes. However, it's currently unknown if this is the case or not.
