Scott Pilgrim vs. King Hippo was a short two-page comic strip by Jaqueline Lesnick, that was contributed to back of the original black-and-white edition of Scott Pilgrim & the Infinite Sadness.

Plot[]

Scott Pilgrim is fighting a boxing match against King Hippo from the NES game Punch-Out!!. Ramona Flowers, Wallace Wells, Kim Pine, Stephen Stills and Young Neil are in attendance. At first Scott is losing, and he asks Ramona if this has something to do with fighting the Evil Exes but Ramona reassures Scott that it was a guest comic and was non-canon. Afterwards, Howard Phillips explains him how to defeat the opponent. Scott then thanks him saying to be glad that he joined the Nintendo Fun Club.

Trivia[]

  • Scott's reference to the Nintendo Fun Club is a reference to Doc Louis from Punch-Out!! that between matches would occasionally say "Join the Nintendo Fun Club today! Mac."
  • While Howard Phillips is a real life person, he appears specifically in his fictional incarnation from the Nester comics and part of Nester's face can even be seen next to him.
  • Despite the appearances of characters from Punch-Out!!, the comic wasn't licensed by Nintendo.
  • The opening panel of Ramona telling Scott that the short is non-canon is the current image for the Non-Canon template.
