Scott Pilgrim references[]

Several characters and references from the Scott Pilgrim series can be seen throughout the comic.

  • Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers can be seen eating together in the Second's restaurant. Scott can be seen eating an avocado and Ramona was eating salad and some kind of bread.
    • Scott eating an avocado is potentially in reference to the fact that he works at The Happy Avocado.
  • Lisa Miller, Stephen Stills and Julie Powers can be seen in Lucky's restaurant in Katie's imagination. Additionally, sitting at a nearby table are characters who appear to resemble Gideon Graves and Lucas Lee.
  • Knives Chau can be seen in the Second's restaurant as Katie walks in all dressed up.
  • Stephen can be seen with Joseph entering the Second's restaurant on a date they're having.
  • Stacey Pilgrim can be seen sitting at a table that Yana is serving at where she is drooling whilst looking at the menu.
  • Katie and Hazel talk about bread. Hazel gets shocked when Katie tells her that "bread makes you fat", the same dialogue Scott and Ramona use in Volume 2 during their date at Scott's apartment.
    • At the bottom of the frame, the word "Sorry" can be seen, a potential fourth wall break from Bryan Lee O'Malley to the reader in reference to the "bread makes you fat" line in Volume 2.
  • The ending of the graphic novel is visually similar to the ending of Volume 6, where Katie's chest of drawers can be seen fading away, similar to that of the Subspace Door in the series.
  • Katie and Hazel visit a store. One item on sale is Ramona's Subspace Suitcase.
  • Katie's ex-boyfriend Max has a bass guitar identical to Scott's Rickenbacker.
  • Several dialogue featured in the graphic novels
    • The line "Shut up. I'm thinking", as said by Katie, is what Envy Adams says after Honest Ed's was destroyed.
    • Another line, "Just sign it right-- yeah, there", as said by Doug, is what Ramona Flowers says when Scott spots her at the library.
