Slave Ramona

Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together

The Slave Ramona is a recurring element in the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, notably appearing in Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together and Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour.

Symbolism[]

It's hard to pin down what the symbolism behind the Slave Ramona is: it's possible that this version of Ramona manifested after Gideon infected her with the Glow and after she left. Since Gideon was in control of Ramona's head, it's possible that when she says to him, in Vol. 6, that "part of me does still belong to you", she may have been referring to this part, or it's possible she could still have some sort of repressed affection for him.

History[]

Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together[]

Capture335

"This is what she wants, buddy. Her innermost desire."

Slave Ramona first appears in the fourth volume when Mr. Chau attacks Scott at the Second Cup. Scott tries to escape using Subspace, while falling through Subspace, he accidentally intrudes into Ramona's head. There, he sees a shadowy figure (implied to be Gideon) sitting on a scaly throne, with Ramona, wearing black gloves, revealing garments and a t-shirt reading "MERGE" sitting by his side. Upon noticing Scott, she orders him to stop looking at her and get out. She proceeds to charge at him and tackle him out of Subspace.

Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour[]

The slave appears again in the sixth and final volume. When Ramona is fatally injured by Gideon, Scott follows him into Subspace through way of Ramona's Subspace Suitcase. There, he finds Gideon atop the same throne, and Ramona (wearing a more revealing outfit and a pair of cuffs) on a leash. Scott orders him to let Ramona go, but he tells him that this was Ramona's "innermost desire". Scott fights Gideon, as the latter grows bigger, Slave Ramona sitting in his hand, eventually headbutting him and giving him the Glow. Gideon's large form disapparates, causing the three to fall to the ground.

Scott catches the Slave Ramona just as they land. Gideon, explaining that he is immune to the Glow, slices Scott's mental form in half using the Power of Love sword, telling him he has no power. As he lies on the floor, Slave Ramona changes into the real Ramona. She sits up, breaks her cuffs and confronts Gideon, growing to size in the process. She tells him that while this part of her does still belong to him, her other parts are all through with him. These parts manifest themselves in the form of previous Ramonas, before she angrily orders Gideon to get out. Gideon complies, but attempts to kill Scott one last time. Ramona orders the other Ramonas, who charge towards Gideon. As this happens, the three return to the real world, where Ramona blocks Gideon's blow with the Subspace Suitcase, causing the suitcase to be destroyed.

"2 Scott 2 Pilgrim"[]

Slave Ramona can briefly be seen during Future Scott's memories seen via the VR Chamber. The scene closely resembles its counterpart from Volume 6.
